Botox Q & A

Will Botox make me look stretched or fake?

This is a common concern among men and women considering Botox. Many people associate these injections with a fake, frozen look. In the early days of Botox, that wasn’t an uncommon outcome, primarily because some practitioners injected more of the product than was necessary, and also because some clients insisted on a “more is more” approach.

Botox has been used in aesthetic applications for more than 15 years. Over that time, the techniques used to place these injections evolved. Today’s results don’t make you look like a different person, they simply help you look like the best version of yourself.

How does Botox work?

Botox is formulated from Clostridium botulinum, a substance found naturally in soil, lakes, and forests. In certain concentrations this substance is deadly, but the volume used in medical and aesthetic applications is carefully controlled and perfectly safe.

When injected into facial muscles, Botox temporarily impedes the ability of those muscles to move through their full range of motion. You’ll still make normal facial expressions, but your muscles can’t pull and tug your skin into wrinkles, folds, and lines.

How long do Botox results last?

Getting Botox takes less than five minutes and requires no advance preparation or recovery time. It takes five injections to treat forehead and frown lines, and three injections to treat crow’s feet. The needle used is incredibly thin, and you’ll only feel a slight pinch during injections.

You’ll begin to see results within 24-48 hours. You can expect to appear more youthful and well-rested, and there is no harsh, abrupt change. People will notice that you look great, but there’s no clear indication that you’ve had anything done.

Those results last four months, at which time you’ll begin to notice your lines and folds gradually deepening. At that point, you can decide if you’d like to extend your results with another treatment. There is evidence to suggest that subsequent Botox injections last a bit longer than the first few treatments.
